Episode 47: Why Are You Waiting on Your Dreams? (Transcript)

You are listening to episode 47 of the Create What You Crave Podcast. The one that cracks the code of why you’re waiting on your dreams – and how to start living them.
How are you in this brand spanking new year?
I’m always excited about starting a new year because it’s like I’ve got a clean slate and a fresh beginning. I review my prior year and answer some thought-provoking questions. I set aside a few hours to do this because it’s important reflection.
Then I visualize the year I want to create from a place of already having created it. That’s one of the best things I’ve learned from my life coach certification – creating from my future self. It’s so powerful.
- So where are you with goal setting?
- Do you set them and forget them?
- Do you set them and then worry about how you’re going to achieve them?
- Worry that they aren’t “realistic” and then talk yourself out of what your soul craves?
If any of this sounds like you, today’s podcast is for you.
I’m going to share my thoughts on…
- Why you make yourself wait for “someday”
- The damaging effects of this and how to quit doing that
Human brains aren’t programmed for positivity and dreaming
Our brains are programmed to pay closer attention to negative things in our world. And if you’ve spent any time with me, you know this because I talk about it all the time as a reminder that your negative slant on the world doesn’t make you bad.
It takes a focused effort to notice the positive and place your focus on what you want to bring into your world. It also takes practice – not sexy I know.
It’s the only thing that gets you to where you want to go. You gotta practice thinking and feeling and showing up in a new way.
When my clients come to me looking for coaching, their initial issues are around leadership – how to be more effective, have more confidence, stop the imposter syndrome thinking, have a vision, etc.
Eventually, our sessions evolve into the topic of goals and dreams.
They come in all shapes and sizes and my clients want to know why they haven’t achieved all their goals.
These are very successful people by anyone’s standard and yet they are asking about how to “make things happen”. They’re smart and resourceful women and know that about themselves, but there’s just something about this goal/dream/desire thing they can’t figure out.
I’m here to tell you that when it comes to creating what you crave, I’m your gal. I can definitely help you do just that. I’m doing that for myself on another level than I’ve ever been. It’s exciting and a little scary if I’m being honest. But isn’t that what makes it even more fun?!
Think of your brain like a tight muscle in your body. If you don’t address it, you won’t be as flexible or mobile as you’d like. With just a little bit of mind massaging, we can change and train our brains to look at things from a fresh perspective, find the low-value thoughts holding you back and insert high-value thoughts that will ensure you’re moving forward.
3 thoughts that keep my clients from moving ahead:
I’m Not Ready
Oh, how many times have I heard this one – and said it to myself? Our brains tell us we have to be completely ready before doing something new or different. That fear will keep you stuck. That’s a bit of the Perfectionist and Procrastinator Derailers™ coming into play.
Here’s the truth: You’ll never feel 100% percent “ready” to do big things. That’s a fact. The best thing to do is “act as if”. I’ve said this before, I don’t like the phrase, “fake it ‘til you make it” because we as women don’t need any more pressure to fake anything.
I like do it until you become it. That’s more empowering to me.
You can act as if…
- You are serious about your goals.
- Your goals are already a done deal.
Miracles are about to happen. - You are a woman with high standards and firm boundaries.
- You’re ready… because you are.
I’m Waiting for a Sign
I’ve heard myself saying this, have you? There was a time in my recent past when I was so confused about a situation in my personal life that I asked the Universe – many many times – to send me a sign. A sign SO obvious that I would just know what to do. That even I could see it.
So, I focused on looking at everything and thinking: “Was that a sign? Or that? Or that?”
I made myself nuts trying to figure out what or if the Universe was telling me something. It was exhausting and super confusing.
Listen, I believe in signs and the goodness that all that brings. But if you’re always waiting around for a sign or for the stars to align, you might be waiting forever.
No one gets to chart the course of your life but you. You have a built-in message center inside you. YOU are the sign. Tap that intuition, listen to what she says and let’s go.
I Don’t Know How To Make It Happen
Change “I don’t know how” into “I will figure out how”.
How can you make this a reality?
Ask yourself, “How can I create this?” What resources, knowledge, people, and tools can help make it a reality?
You have so many connections that I bet you haven’t thought of for a long time. Dig out that LinkedIn profile and look at who you’re connected to. Scroll through your phone contacts to see who might be able to help.
Then go ahead and ask for what you want. Read up on what you’re trying to achieve. Hire a coach that focuses on ditching your doubt and claiming your confidence on what’s possible. Network to find your peeps who “get it”, will support you and hold you to your big vision.
If you can crave it, you are meant to create it.
Your dreams are waiting for you

This is a shorter podcast this week and I did that for a reason.
I don’t want you to spend time listening to long podcasts or watching long videos searching for the perfect advice so you can then go make your goals or set intentions. I want you out there living the life, doing all the things.
Put yourself out there and try new things without a safety net or someone else’s advice.
Who knows you better than you do? No one! Ask your inner wise self what she thinks and go do that.
That’s how you create the career and life you crave. You go out and DO it.
Alright my friends, go forth. Report back and remember:
I believe in you.
