Everything you need to know about getting lucky

Do you ever hear yourself downplay your efforts and achievements when something goes well?
Last week while coaching one of my clients, we were celebrating she’d signed on a new client for her company. When I asked how she’d done it she replied, “I just got lucky. I was in the right place at the right time.”
I didn’t let her get away with that. (But you already knew that, didn’t you).
Very quickly I searched Google for the definition of lucky and here’s what I found:
“Success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one’s own actions.”
Key word: apparently.
Ok, full disclosure.
I don’t believe in luck.
I believe in effort.
I believe in expertise.
I believe in alignment.
So I asked my client to recount all the ways she was “lucky”.
I asked her to start at the very beginning when she first started to connect with this client.
With each instance I asked if that was luck or her efforts and skill.
Each time it was her efforts and skill.
After a few minutes of this, her face completely changed. She’d had her realization.
It wasn’t luck at all.
It was her.
It was her dedication to serve.
It was her expertise in the field.
It was her ability to connect and build trust quickly.
It was her outside the box thinking that created the exact solutions they were looking for.
It was all her – being aligned.
No luck to be found.
Do you find yourself crediting luck for your success?
You’re doing yourself a disservice.
It’s part of the Imposter Syndrome and it’s killing your ability to get to that next level.
What if you could change that?
It’s OK to know what your gifts and talents are and that you excel in certain areas.
It validates all your hard work.
It makes you more valuable to your organization and those you serve.
It helps you be an example to other women on how to really show up authentically – and be successful in the process.
Owning your brilliance isn’t bragging.
It’s self-confidence at its finest.
