One Question is All You Need to Ask
This is a fascinating time in the United States. We have just experienced the most negative presidential campaign and election in our nation’s history. So much emotion on both sides. So much mud-slinging. So much trying to convince that one side is “right” and the other “wrong”.
Not much listening.
No connecting.
I am a firm believer that there are lessons to be found in almost every situation if one looks hard enough.
I don’t think we need to look hard in this one, however.
Without rehashing any of the rhetoric or incidences, I want to share my thoughts on how we move forward from here.
This is about you.
How you live.
How you lead.
How you show up.
You have a choice on what conversations or movements you join.
You have a choice on what you think and believe.
You have a choice on how you behave.
You have a choice.
Sometimes, our brains can get pretty muddied-up in the face of all the information that’s coming at us 24/7. It can seem overwhelming.
We turn to outside sources for guidance and seek answers in difficult times or situations.
I know. I’ve experienced this, too.
There’s only one source that knows exactly what’s best for you.
Ask yourself, “Who do I want to be in this situation?”
I’ve asked this of myself for decades.
When I got divorced.
When I got married to the love of my life.
When I had kids.
When I started each of my businesses.
When I coach leaders.
When I had cancer.
When my kids went off to college.
When I speak to groups of leaders.
Each situation has a different answer:
Brave.
Supportive.
Kind.
Decisive.
Loving.
Committed.
Confident.
You have the answers within you.
Trust your true self to know what the answer is for you.
Just make sure you ask the question.
It’s the surest way to lead authenticially – and Live It Real™.
