Whip or Win? Which do you choose most often?

I always start my coaching calls with clients asking them what they are celebrating and 90% of the time, I get a blank stare. They have a hard time thinking of anything.

Why is that?

Their brains are full of what still needs to get done, what problems need to be solved and how will they ever get to it all.

One of my clients had just pulled off an event that was amazing by anyone’s standards. Yes, it was chaotic in the back of the house and a lot that didn’t go as planned. She had to think on her feet and find creative ways to solve problems fast. She did it with precision and grace.

And it was beautiful where all the people who mattered were gathering. The experience was exactly as they hoped it would be – and so much more.

She received compliment after compliment but when I asked her how it went, all she could tell me was what went wrong and all the ways it should have been better.

I reminded her of the compliments.

She didn’t take them in.

I asked her why she chooses to whip herself rather than allow herself to enjoy the win?

Sound familiar?

It sure does to me.

It took me a long time to realize I don’t have to abuse myself with unrealistic expectations or minimize my successes. I decided to examine my expectations and celebrate my wins – no matter how small.

There’s nothing humble about not owning your gifts and talents.

This is one way successful women hold themselves back while speeding down the road to burnout.

I’m sure that is not a destination you have listed on the roadmap of your career.

What would it look like if you decided you would own and enjoy your wins?

Would your workdays be more pleasurable?

Would you actually feel accomplished at the end of the day?

Might you enjoy your evenings and be present with your loved ones?

These are just some of the benefits that come with owning your wins.

And here’s a bonus – you become a role model of how to be more fulfilled in your work and life.

Now that is a win to celebrate, right?
