The Answers You Seek are Closer than You Think
We’re a couple of weeks into September (where did summer go!) and I’m wondering what’s happening in your world. Soon the leaves will start to turn, there will be a chill in the air and we’ll start hearing holiday music in shopping malls.
Did you take some vacation days to enjoy summer outings or perhaps a trip away with your family? And now that you’re back to work, it feels harder to reengage.
Yep. The same old routine has kicked into gear. It’s the same thing every year for many of us and what’s interesting is that for some, the slump hits hard.
Are you feeling the slump hump tougher to climb?
I find the last few months of the year an interesting time. People are trying to hurry up and make the changes to their lives – lose weight, exercise more, read more self-help books, work harder at… – that they said they wanted to make at the beginning of the year. They realize there are only a fews months left. The fitness clubs are packed, weight-loss programs are in full swing, books are being downloaded – all good resources, for sure.
Yet, it seems that the focus is on looking “out there” for the solution to what ails us “in here”.
Well, what if you chose to do something different this time?
What if you consulted the most amazing resource that knows everything about you and the best solution to whatever challenge you are facing?
What if there was a mentor that I could connect you to that would be able to analyze your situation, discover the solution that would be the right fit for you and guide you through the process – would you be interested?
I have a coaching client that was in need of this exact thing.
Melanie (not her real name) is the queen of all things strive and drive. She is very successful in her job as a Vice President and is looked upon as a trailblazer in the company for whom she works. She consumes leadership and self-improvement books voraciously and attends seminars whenever she can. She has a full plate and has a difficult time keeping all the balls in the air (sound familiar?).
In one of our coaching sessions, she told me how overwhelmed she was feeling – that she “should” be able to handle everything and was looking for advice on what to do.
That’s when I asked her if I could introduce her to someone who would have all her right answers.
“Oh my God, yes!” was her response.
“Melanie, meet Melanie”, I said.
Wait – what?!
We all have an inner mentor – our very own leadership guru for our life – inside of us. All we have to do is slow down, be still and listen.
Ah, there’s the catch.
So much striving and driving disengages us from the ability to hear what our inner wise self is saying. We keep looking “out there” for someone we deem an expert to tell us how to transform ourselves or our lives, in the hopes that if we just follow this 5-step program or that 30-day habit, we will magically create what we really want.
And…
It seldom happens and doesn’t last.
Isn’t it time to start to seek counsel and advice from the one being that truly knows what your heart desires?
Yes, my friend, it is.
The next time you are all a flutter about this or that and are in need of some really good advice, I implore you to stop and find time to go within. Sit in a quiet place, close your eyes and start to quiet your mind.
(I lead an entire Future Self, guided meditation at The Exhale Retreat that is so powerful – every attendee has asked for the recording so they can experience it again).
When you’ve done that, ask your inner mentor what is your next right step? What do you need to know right in this moment?
Then, be still and listen.
The answer always comes.
P.S. Want to learn more about your inner mentor and how to tap into her wisdom? There are only a couple spots left to join me and other amazing women in business in October at The Exhale Retreat™. Hurry and register today!
P.P.S. Feel free to share this with someone you know who is tired of climbing the slump hump. Give them the gift of real change – Share away!
