Are you dashing through this holiday?

I noticed every one of my clients told me the same thing during our sessions this week.
They need to be productive and get everything done so they can take time off for the holiday.
On the surface this might seem reasonable, but as a master coach I had to dive deeper.
That need doesn’t go away once they turn off their computer.
They transfer it to getting ready for Christmas.
Wrapping, baking, cooking.
Trying to create the perfect holiday – in a very imperfect world.
Then there’s New Year’s Eve.
And resolutions.
And goals.
And new projects.
And. And. And.
The common thread with each of these high-achieving professional women was the notion of having to be productive to prove their value.
They have to keep doing things or they might be judged as lazy.
They keep putting “relaxing” into the future.
Does this sound like you?
It sure sounds familiar to the old me, before I decided to actually enjoy each holiday and stop striving for perfection.
Trying to get things all tidy and wrapped with a bow may sound doable, but at what cost?
Take this time to dial down the “shoulds” in your brain.
Take time to be, rather than do.
If there’s anything this pandemic has taught us, it’s that being together – whether in-person or virtually – is the most important thing.
So give yourself permission to leave work early.
Close that laptop and turn off your email notifications.
Put on some warm socks, your favorite sweater and sip something hot.
Snuggle in with your family, your pet or a favorite book and let the world go by.
Your value isn’t based on how much you do.
You have value because you’re you.
You are worthy just because you breathe.
Have a beautiful holiday.
