2 Simple Words that Change Everything
I was coaching a client this week on everything she and her team had to accomplish.
Plans needed to be made. Action items put in a list. Schedules coordinated. Teams to manage. People to hold accountable.
Plus the actual work had to be done which would take creativity and innovation.
She was stressed out and overwhelmed.
When I asked her for the deadline, she said “This year.”
(Insert screeching halt sound)
Me: This year as in from now until December 31st?
Her: No, we just started our new fiscal year.
Me: So, you have a little time – like 12 months.
Her: Oh.
She was spinning in what I call the Spin Cycle of Negativity, where her brain kept repeating over and over and over the same thoughts that kept her stuck in overwhelm and confusion – and unable to see a clear path.
Her brain was making it harder than it needed to be.
During our coaching session I asked her several powerful questions and then I used two simple words that changed everything.
What’s possible?
She looked at me stunned, as if she had just been hit by lightning.
Then it all came pouring out.
All the ideas.
All the visions.
All the processes.
Everything.
Just by answering that question of two simple words.
At the end of our session, I asked what her take-aways were and here’s what she said:
“I had a breakthrough feeling about what’s possible and curiosity. I had a flood of emotion – like I wanted to cry – because it’s kind of amazing. Can it be that easy? It’s kind of like the sun just came out. I get to choose what I think and feel.”
Yes she does.
Sometimes we create our own cloud and that cloud has been around for a long time. We forget there’s sun above that cloud.
It’s like being in an airplane: there’s turbulence and lots of clouds on take-off, it’s too bumpy to serve drinks and peanuts and you can’t see past the clouds.
Then, once the plane pops out of the clouds, it’s sunny.
Choose what you think and how you feel.
We all get to do that.
The key is to take back your power from that primitive brain of yours and use your adult brain as the starting place for curiosity.
And so I have just one question for you, my friend:
What’s possible?
P.S. – Curious about what would happen when you start to take charge of your thoughts? They’ve created where you are now. But that doesn’t have to be where you stay. It’s time to start playing bigger and I’m here to help. Schedule a call with me today to learn how coaching with me helps you create what’s possible.
