Do you believe in signs?
I love a good romance movie, don’t you?
One of my favorites is Sleepless in Seattle with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. I’m not sure how many times I’ve watched it – with and without my hubby by my side. I laugh, I cry and I swoon.
The most recent time I watched this was a month or so ago and I watched it from a different viewpoint.
Throughout the movie, Annie (Meg Ryan) and Noah (the kid who plays Tom Hanks’ son) keep talking about seeing “signs” in their life – things that come up that point to where they should go, what they should do… – you get the picture.
The movie shows Annie and Sam (Tom Hanks) in their separate lives and how they come to make a connection.
At the end of the movie, Annie and her fiancé are celebrating Valentine’s Day and she looks out the window to see a heart outlined in red light on the side of the Empire State Building. She takes it as a sign to leave her fiancé and go meet Sam at the top of the Empire State Building to see it they are “MFEO” (made for each other). (You can watch is here )
The entire move revolves around signs and questioning what is and isn’t one.
So what is a sign, anyway?
A sign is information or an event sent to you from the Universe designed to get your attention so you can understand something, take action or be aware of something that may be a positive or negative in your life.
Have you ever noticed that a particular message keeps coming into your life?
This very thing happened to me recently and it blew me away! Here’s the abridged version of the sequence of events:
Monday: Experienced a difficult situation in my work life that was unexpected.
Tuesday: Read one of my favorite quotes, “Leap and the net will appear.” – John Burroughs.
Wednesday: Got a call that supplied the “net.”
Thursday: Continued to coach myself and woke up feeling energized – partially because of all the signs I’d received so far.
Friday: Prayed for a sign that would be so obvious that I couldn’t ignore it.
Saturday: Picked up the newspaper lifestyle section to see a full-page article about the very issue I was grappling with. (Wait, whaaaaat!!!?)
Coincidence or sign?
Sign all the way, baby!
Since that day, I have had multiple signs delivered to me daily – too many to call anything other than a message from the Divine.
Looking back on it, I realized I went through a process to arrive at the answer I was looking for and I’d like to share it with you.
- Be specific. Make sure the questions you ask Spirit are clear so when you get the answer, there’s no mistaking what is meant. Where in your life do you need help, when you’d like that help to arrive and the meaning that answer has for you.
- Let It Go! Once you have asked the question, release it to the world, so you are open to the answer. If you have it spinning around in your head, there’s no space for the message you’re looking for.
- Be present. Once you’ve asked for Divine guidance, be present in each moment. Notice how your body feels, how you’re showing up in the world. Our intuition lives in our body, so be fully present and notice what your body is telling you.
- Be open and receptive. We humans think too much, so if you have to ruminate on whether something is a sign or not – it probably isn’t. Be in tune with your surroundings so if you hear something or see something out of the corner of your eye that triggers a physical reaction, you’ll have your answer.
So next time you are faced with a dilemma and need to know what to do, follow these steps.
You’ll get your answer.
Be open to receiving it.
Then be amazed at what the Universe has in store for you.
P.S. What signs are you seeing in your life and what are they telling you? I’d love to hear, so reply here or let’s start a conversation over on our Facebook community!
