The Secret to Making Things Happen
I’ve been told that to create what I want in this world, I had to make things happen.
It was my job to push and grasp and beat out the others to get the job or get promoted. When I was in sales, I was told I had to be “in my business” 24/7 so I didn’t miss an opportunity. “Can’t miss a sale. I won’t hit my goal”, I’d think to myself. I’d watch my fellow realtors struggle with the “always gotta be on” mindset and work their business from a place of lack and competition. (Yes, I was a realtor in a past life and had some crazy experiences while showing houses!)
Push + Chase + Grasp = Results.
Next.
That was the formula I was fed for decades.
And I ate it up. I didn’t know any differently.
What I did know is that it never felt good to operate that way. It didn’t feel like me.
So, I ignored that inner voice because I used to think those who were more successful than me knew better. They knew how it was done – like there was only one way to sell or lead people or reach goals.
What a crock.
That kind of thinking is all based in fear. It’s about lack and being needy. It’s about grabbing all you can – like there’s going to be a shortage or something.
Think about your life. Are you following this formula in your thinking?
When you try something new are you patient with yourself or do you expect perfection on the first try?
Yeah, I thought so. Don’t beat yourself up about it. You’ve got lots of company. Our society is one of instant gratification and our patience muscle has atrophied.
We want what we want when we want it. (Sounds like a toddler).
Want a better way?
Here’s the secret to making things happen:
Slow. Down.
It’s true.
Your brain is going to tell you things aren’t happening fast enough and you’re going to believe that, which causes tons of unnecessary stress. It also keeps you focusing on what you don’t want.
Your brain has over 60,000 thoughts run through it at warp speed daily. That’s a lot to keep track of.
“It’s been two days and I haven’t heard about my promotion. They must not think I’m good enough. Damn, I really wanted that job.”
“Why can’t I lose weight? I’ve been starving myself for 10 days and nothing!”
Your brain tells you lies all the time. It’s programmed to pay more attention to negativity than positivity.
AND – you have the power to decide which thoughts you want to think.
Instead, focus on what you do want.
Breathe.
Slow down.
Be patient.
Do the next right thing.
Allow space for what you want to come to you.
I was talking with a coaching colleague the other day and she shared she was having some self-doubt around a certain thing. When I asked her how she’s handling it, she said, “I picture a waiter with a tray that has all the self-doubt thoughts on it and he’s offering them to me. I have the power in that moment to take one or say, no thanks. Then I take steps forward that bring me closer to what I want.”
Brilliant, right?
What thoughts or beliefs do you have that no longer serve you that you’d like to get rid of today?
What will you say ‘no thanks’ to?
How can you show up that will bring you closer to what you want?
Please reply and let me know. I’m all ears!
P.S. You have the choice every day on what you believe. It’s time to take action. If you’re ready to make changes and stop allowing your brain to hold you back, then schedule a call with me today and let’s talk about how we can work together to make some changes.
I know your brain is saying no, but the real you is saying yes, yes, yes!
